Legal Advocacy Team
NCYL'south Legal Advocacy team engages in bear on litigation beyond all the problems on which NCYL works. The team brings systemic cases to ameliorate systems that serve children and youth, often in collaboration with other public interest law firms and with back up from pro bono partners. Position
NCYL seeks a Director , Legal Advocacy, to contribute to NCYL's litigation beyond multiple result areas and help manage litigation on a number of children's rights and civil rights issues in many jurisdictions, including state and federal court. This a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about transforming the systems that impact the well-beingness of children, youth, and communities.
This position is supervised by NCYL's Senior Managing Manager, Legal Advocacy.
Essential Functions
- Advance NCYL'southward bear upon litigation strategy beyond multiple issue areas and help develop new cases in partnership with the Senior Managing Director, Legal Advocacy and other team directors and staff; and assist NCYL's Senior Directors and other squad leads in ensuring cases are accordingly staffed.
- Help directly, plan, and perform litigation on problems impacting children and youth.
- Aid develop long-term goals and strategic objectives for the Legal Advocacy Team.
- Work closely with NCYL'south Senior Managing Director, Legal Advocacy, to aid develop, manage, and implement processes to manage NCYL's docket efficiently.
- Set up and review co-counseling agreements, retainer agreements, and other legal documents.
- Aid with efforts to collect chaser'due south fees.
- Help develop and implement NCYL's litigation policies and practices, including those for timekeeping, conflict checks and instance approval, and suggest improvements as necessary.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team and work environment.
- Coordinate with NCYL's development and communications teams every bit needed.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. degree
- Admitted, or eligible to be admitted, to exercise police force in the US.
- A minimum of x years of litigation feel.
- A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
Other Qualifications
- Demonstrated understanding of and feel in children'due south rights and civil rights litigation on issues involving public systems and children and youth.
- Feel leading systemic reform litigation, including identifying systemic issues in need of reform, developing litigation strategy and remedies, contributing to systems alter and monitoring implementation of remedies.
- Commitment to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Ability to use a racial justice lens.

Bacon, Benefits and Location
This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary of $156,944.00. A geographic salary differential may be practical if a candidate resides somewhere other than the Los Angeles, CA, Oakland, CA, or Washington, DC areas.

This position is eligible for 100% remote work for 2022. Information technology is possible that in 2023, NCYL will require people to work in an office, in which case they will demand to be in a location where they can commute to the office regularly.
